What is the Room & Linen Spray Base?
It's a ready-to-use base that lets you launch a room and linen spray line without formulating from scratch. The base does the technical heavy lifting, so you just add your chosen fragrance or essential oil, cure, bottle and brand it as your own. A fast, reliable way to add a new product to your range without the R&D.
Why this base?
We decided to manufacture our own base so we could be completely transparent about what goes into it. Many bases on the market are sold as proprietary blends, which means the full ingredient list is kept secret and you never really know what you're putting in front of your customers. We took the opposite approach. We know exactly what's in every bottle and share the full ingredient list openly, so you can pass that same transparency on to your customers. That means no hidden nasties, no guesswork, and a base you can stand behind and sell with confidence.
How do I use this base?
It's simple. Add your fragrance or essential oil at 1%, mix through, then let it cure for 3 to 5 days so the scent binds and stabilises. For example, for a 100ml bottle you'd add 99ml of base and 1ml of fragrance oil. Once cured, bottle it into a fine-mist spray bottle, label it, and it's ready to sell. To use the finished spray, shake, then mist lightly over the air, bedding, curtains and soft furnishings from around 30cm away, letting fabric dry fully before contact.
What's in it?
Water (Aqua), Ethanol, Dipropylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glucoside, Coco Glucoside, Phenoxyethanol, and Citric Acid. In short: a clean, water-based blend, low in alcohol, with gentle plant-derived solubilisers (the Caprylyl and Coco Glucoside) to disperse fragrance evenly, plus a preservative system so your finished product has a stable shelf life for retail.
How much fragrance or essential oil should I add?
We recommend adding 1% fragrance oil for a clear solution with strong scent throw. Going above 1 to 2% may cause cloudiness, especially with heavier oils. Always test a new oil in a small batch before scaling up to a production run.
Is there a cure time after adding fragrance?
Yes. Allow your finished spray to cure for 3 to 5 days after adding fragrance or essential oils. This resting period lets the fragrance fully bind with the base, stabilises the solution, and allows the scent to develop its true character, so build it into your production schedule before dispatch. Store sealed and out of direct sunlight while curing.
Will my spray stay clear once I add fragrance?
It depends on the oil. Fully soluble fragrances that are lighter in naturals and free of heavy resins tend to stay crystal clear. Oils with lots of naturals, vanillin, citrus or waxy components may haze or shift colour. For example, Vanilla Pure turns a dark coffee colour from its vanillin content, and Bohemian Musk goes a pinkish/rose shade. This is normal, but worth knowing so you can set customer expectations (or choose oils that suit a clear product).
What makes it linen safe?
Two things. First, the base is water-based, low in alcohol, and free from heavy oils, silicones and waxes, with a neutral pH (5.5 to 6), so it evaporates cleanly without staining or dulling fabrics. Second, the ingredients are safe for skin contact, which matters because room and linen sprays end up on bedding, cushions and soft furnishings that your customers rest against. Fabric-friendly and skin-friendly, so it's well suited to the things people live with up close.
Is it safe on all fabrics?
Recommend to your customers that they test on a small, hidden area first, particularly on delicate or dark fabrics. The formula is water-based and low in alcohol, but natural fibres absorb differently. Avoiding over-saturation and letting fabric dry fully before contact is good practice worth noting on your label.
How should I store the base?
Keep it cool, dry and out of direct sunlight with the lid sealed. Stored well, it holds up nicely between production runs.
Is it vegan and PEG-free?
Both. PEG-free means no polyethylene glycols (petrochemical-derived synthetics). Instead it uses plant-based solubilisers (Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside and Coco Glucoside) that are gentle and biodegradable. And it's vegan: all ingredients are synthetic or plant-derived, with no animal products, by-products or testing at any stage of manufacture. Both are useful selling points for your product listings.
What should I include on my own labels?
We suggest noting that the product is intended “for fabric and air freshening use only.”
Safety: “Do not apply to skin. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Avoid contact with eyes and polished surfaces.”
Usage: “Spray lightly from approximately 30cm away. Avoid over-saturating fabric. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first. Allow fabric to dry completely before use.”
