Candle Dye Chips

Dye chips are small, solid blocks of highly concentrated candle dye. They're one of the easiest and most budget-friendly ways to colour your candles, with no measuring liquid dyes or messy droppers. Just add a chip (or part of one) to your melted wax, stir until it dissolves, and pour.

No. Unlike mica and pigment powders, dye chips dissolve completely into the wax rather than sitting in it as fine particles. That means they won't build up on or clog your wick, so they're safe to use in wicked, burning candles.

A little goes a long way. As a starting point, around 1 chip per kilogram of wax gives a clear medium shade, half a chip gives a soft pastel, and 2 or more gives a deep, vivid colour. Dye strength varies with your wax and pour temperature, so always start light, test the colour on a cold spoon and build up gradually. You can add more, but you can't take it out.

Absolutely. Because the chips dissolve fully into the wax, they blend cleanly with one another. Combine them to create custom shades. A little yellow warms up green, a touch of blue cools down violet, and so on. Keep notes on your ratios so you can repeat a colour you love.

These dye chips are formulated for candle wax and aren't intended for soap, bath bombs or cosmetics. If you're colouring skin or bath products, our cosmetic-grade micas are the right choice. Check the safety tags on each mica for what it's approved for.

Dye chips work in soy, paraffin and blended candle waxes. Very high natural-wax content can mute or soften the final colour slightly, which is why soy candles often set a touch more pastel than paraffin. If you want a punchier result in soy, nudge your dosage up a little.

This is normal. Molten wax is translucent, so the colour always looks stronger in the pot than it does in the finished candle. As wax cools and turns opaque it lightens, soy especially. Judge your final shade from a fully set test pour rather than the melted wax, and adjust from there.
