FAQ's

What is melt and pour soap?

It’s a pre-made soap base that you simply melt, customise with colours, scents, and fun additives, then pour into moulds to create your own unique bars—no lye or complicated chemistry required! Perfect for beginners and creative crafters alike, it’s the easiest way to whip up beautiful, skin-loving soaps in no time.

What is the difference between melt and pour and cold process soap?

Melt and pour is the easy, beginner-friendly way to make soap using a pre-made base. Just melt, customise, and pour with no lye handling or curing time. Cold process, on the other hand, is made from scratch by mixing oils and lye, allowing full ingredient control but requiring precise handling and weeks of curing.

What limitations are there with melt and pour soap?

In comparison to Cold Process soap, you have less control over ingredients, and adding too many oils or botanicals can cause sweating or softening. Its high glycerin content makes it prone to moisture in humid conditions and quicker to dissolve in water. Fresh additives can also be prone to mould, limiting decoration options. Despite this, it’s a quick and customisable way to create beautiful handmade soaps.

Which fragrance oils can I use?

All Wickii fragrance oils are carefully formulated to be skin-safe and suitable for melt and pour soap-making, ensuring high-quality scents without compromising safety. Our fragrance oils are phthalate-free, IFRA-compliant, and designed for use in candle and also body care products.

Can I use fragrance oils with vanillin content?

Yes, you can use fragrance oils with vanillin content in melt and pour soap, but be aware that vanillin can cause discoloration, turning soap shades of cream, tan, or brown over time. The higher the vanillin percentage, the darker the discoloration. You can add a vanilla stabilizer to help delay or reduce the colour change.

Are essential oils skin safe?

Not all essential oils are skin-safe, and some can cause irritation, sensitization, or even phototoxic reactions if used incorrectly. Use IFRA standards to ensure you are compliant with your essential oil use.

Is there a curing time for melt and pour soap?

Unlike cold process soap, which requires weeks of curing, melt and pour soap is ready to use as soon as it hardens, making it a quick and convenient option for soap-making.

Do you have a starter kit?

Yes, Wickii offers a comprehensive Soap Making Starter Kit designed to kickstart your soap-making journey. This kit includes all the essentials you need to create beautiful, handcrafted soaps.
