Candle Making Supplies FAQ

The questions Aussie candle makers ask us most, answered without the waffle.

Do you offer wholesale pricing on candle making supplies?

Yes! Our whole website is wholesale, so you’re already getting trade pricing on every product. For makers buying in larger volumes, we also offer bulk pricing on:

  • Waxes: 100 kg and above
  • Bases (soap, lotion, room spray): 100 kg and above
  • Fragrance oils: 2.5 L and above

Every order ships flat-rate $15 anywhere in Australia, or you’re welcome to collect free from our Sunshine Coast showroom in Baringa, QLD. Just flick us a message before you head down so we can have your order ready.

How fast do you ship and where do you ship from?

We dispatch from our Sunshine Coast warehouse in Baringa, QLD, usually within 1 to 2 business days of your order. Standard delivery to most Australian metro areas takes 2 to 5 business days. Regional and WA orders take a little longer (sorry friends, blame the distance, not us!). Every order ships flat-rate $15 anywhere in Australia, or you can collect free from our Baringa showroom.

What types of candle wax does Wickii stock?

We stock four waxes, and each one has its own job to do:

  • Simply 100% Soy Wax: clean, reliable container candles
  • Simply CocoSoy Wax: for a point of difference and a stronger throw
  • Pillar Soy Blend Wax: for moulded and pillar candles that need to hold their shape
  • Simply Gel Wax: clear and decorative, perfect for embeds and statement pieces

Pack sizes run from 1 kg samples (great for testing a new fragrance) right up to 20 kg bulk cartons for production batches.

Which candle wax is best for beginners?

If you’re pouring your first candle, start with Simply 100% Soy Wax. It pours cleanly into containers, holds fragrance beautifully, and forgives the little temperature wobbles that come with learning. Once you’ve got a few pours under your belt and you’re ready for a creamier finish with stronger scent throw, Simply CocoSoy Wax (our soy and coconut blend) is a lovely next step. Pillar Soy Blend and Gel Wax are best left until you’re comfortable with the basics, since they’re built for moulded and decorative candles and come with their own learning curve.

How much fragrance oil should I add to candle wax?

For soy and CocoSoy waxes, 8% fragrance load by weight is a reliable starting point. That’s 80 g of fragrance per 1 kg of wax. It sits comfortably within the safe range and gives most fragrances room to throw without overloading the wax. Always check the maximum load on the wax product page before you pour, because going over can cause fragrance to seep out, sink holes to form, or your candle to flunk its burn test. Add your fragrance at the manufacturer’s recommended temperature (usually 60 to 65 °C for soy) and stir gently for 1 to 2 minutes to bind it properly.

How much wax do I need to fill my candle jars?

Wax is lighter than water, so you can’t fill a jar 1:1 by volume. It’s a common trap for new makers! The quick rule: multiply your jar’s water capacity in millilitres by 0.85 to get the wax weight in grams. So a 300 ml jar needs roughly 255 g of wax. Whenever you start using a new jar shape, weigh the first batch with water and a kitchen scale, then save that ratio for future pours. Future-you will say thanks.

What size wick should I use for my candle?

The right wick depends on your jar diameter, wax type, and fragrance load, so there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. As a starting point, measure your jar’s internal diameter and match it to the wick manufacturer’s burn chart (we list recommended diameters on every wick product page). Always test-burn before committing to a production run. You’re looking for a melt pool that reaches the edge of the jar within 2 to 3 hours, with a flame around 2 to 3 cm tall. Too small and you’ll get tunnelling. Too large and you’ll get sooting or an unsafe flame.

Do I need to cure my candles before burning them?

Yes, and it makes a real difference! Soy and CocoSoy candles need a cure time of 1 to 2 weeks before their first burn, which gives the fragrance time to bind properly with the wax. Skip the cure and you’ll get a weak hot throw, even from a stunning fragrance. Cure in a cool, dark cupboard with lids on. Pillar and gel waxes don’t need as long, but a few days of rest never hurts.
