What can I make with Coco Glucoside?
Any rinse-off product where you want gentle cleansing and a soft, creamy foam. Common uses are facial cleansers, body washes, hand washes, liquid shampoos and shampoo bars, and baby or sensitive-skin formulations. It works as the main surfactant in a mild formula or as a secondary surfactant that boosts foam and softens a harsher blend.
How much do I need to use?
Most formulations use between 2% and 20%. Stay towards the lower end for gentle and baby-care products, and move higher for body washes and shampoos where you want more cleansing and a fuller lather. Remember it is supplied at roughly 50 to 55% active, so the amount of actual surfactant in your product is about half the weight you add.
Why does my formulation need its pH adjusted?
Coco Glucoside is naturally alkaline, around pH 11 to 12 in a 10% solution, which is well above the slightly acidic range skin and hair prefer. After it is blended in, test the finished product with pH strips or a meter and bring it down gradually with a small amount of acid, such as a citric acid solution, stirring and re-testing as you go. Adjusting slowly avoids overshooting and keeps the formula stable.
Can I use it on its own or should I blend it?
Both work. On its own it gives a very mild clean with a soft foam, which suits sensitive-skin and baby products. Blending it with other gentle surfactants lets you fine-tune how much it cleanses, how much it lathers and how the product feels. It is compatible with a broad range of cosmetic ingredients, so it slots into most water-based cleansing formulas without trouble.
How is it different from Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside?
Both are mild, plant-derived glucoside surfactants and are often used together. Coco Glucoside leans towards gentle cleansing and creamy foam. Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside has a higher HLB, which makes it the stronger choice for solubilising fragrance and essential oils into water and keeping a formula clear. Many makers use Coco Glucoside for lather and add Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside when clarity matters.
