Have You Made Whipped Candles Before?

Have You Made Whipped Candles Before?

While whipped candles aren't necessarily a new concept in the candle making industry, they're experiencing a resurgence in popularity. Following the trend of bubble candles that has captivated enthusiasts, whipped candles are emerging as the next big craze. Intrigued by this trend, we decided to join the movement and craft some of our own to experience the hype firsthand.

Whipped candles involve melting wax until it reaches a near-set state, then utilising a whisk to transform it into a pipeable consistency reminiscent of frosting. This whipped wax is then transferred into a piping bag and carefully applied to candles, resulting in designs that resemble cakes, frappes, and hot chocolate beverages.

What do you need:

Step 1: Select the Right Wax

We recommend using our 100% CocoSoy Wax. This will give you a better final product, smoother whipping and piping abilities.

Step 2: Prepare the Candle Jar

Like pictured, you'll start off with a standard candle as the base, make sure to use the same wax to have a consistent burn throughout. We coloured ours based on the fragrance we've chosen (we did pink with strawberry crepe fragrance). Make and pour your candle as you usually would, only filling up to just over half way.

Step 3: Heat and Fragrance your Whipping Wax

After we finished pouring the coloured wax, we cleaned the jug and poured our 'whipping wax' into the jug. We added fragrance between the 70-80oC so that your fragrance still binds properly. We didn't add any colour because we wanted to keep that whipped cream look. You'll then allow your wax to sit until it reaches 40oC. During this time, the candle bases you have poured should fully set.

Step 4: Time to Whip

Now that your wax is at 40oC, you'll need to start whipping your wax. Whisk your CocoSoy wax vigorously. Your wax will need to be quite thick before putting it into your piping bag. About that same thickness as real icing. You'll be able to see when the soft peaks begin to form, you'll know it's ready.

Step 5: Time to Pipe

Once it's whisked, scoop it into your piping bag with the nozzle already inside.  Pipe around your wick first and bringing it out to the edges. You need to make sure you have wax all around your wick, not missing any part so that it has a consistent burn.

Remember: DO NOT overfill your candle jar. When your candle is lit and the wax is all melted, it will need to still sit 1cm below the top of your candle jar.

Step 6: Add your finishing touches.

Add a drizzle of coloured wax over the top to give it a bit more texture with a pipette. This is perfect if you want it to look like a caramel or chocolate sauce over the top.

Overall, making the whipped candles were so much fun. They look so cute and smell divine. We highly recommend giving it a go because it's different from what all the other candle makers have on the market at the moment.

We love seeing all the unique and beautiful products our customers make. With our wide range of wholesale candle supplies, the options are endless. If you're new to candle making, our Soy Wax Candle Starter kits are perfect to get the hang of the process!
