Potassium Cocoate
About
Potassium Cocoate is a potassium salt that originates from the fatty acids present in coconut oil. It is a natural surfactant that removes dirt when blended with water. This must be diluted down. Not to be used internally, on lips, melted down, in the eyes or in bath bombs.
This can be used to make handwash, shampoo, laundry detergents and more.

Hand Wash & Shampoo
INGREDIENTS
- 1 Part Potassium Cocoate
- 2 Parts Water
- 5% maximum Loading on preferred Fragrance oil or 2% on essential oils
METHOD
Mix your ingredients. If you want to change the consistency, add more water.
Sugar Scrubs
INGREDIENTS
- 500g Granulated Sugar
- 44ml Jojoba Oil (not the essential oil)
- 14ml Potassium Cocoate
- 6 ml Fragrance Oil maximum
- Containers to hold scrub
METHOD
1. Mix together the Jojoba oil and the Potassium Cocoate until is has fully combined. It'll make a paste.
2. Mix in the fragrance oil into the jojoba/potassium paste until blended.
3. Mix through the liquid through your sugar and put into your jars. The scrub is now ready to use in the shower.
Note: Excess water from the shower getting into the scrub may cause it age faster. Adding a preservative like Optiphen may help with this. You can also customise your scrub by adding other things like peppercorns, poppy seeds, raw sugar, desiccated coconut. Testing will be required to get desired results.

Potassium Cocoate is designed to be used as a natural liquid surfactant. Do not use it on its own as its concentration is too high and will be too harsh on your skin. Maximum loading is 35% and to be diluted with either water or added to liquid soaps, shampoos and body scrubs to create more of a lather and add cleansing properties to it.
